Situation

Having pioneered “big box” general merchandise retailing in China, our client had achieved critical mass and needed to align and consolidate merchandise management practices in order to support exponential growth in China going forward.

Solution

Through a succession of highly focused individual projects over the course of three years, we helped the client leverage internal best practices, improve analytical tools, sharpen procurement processes, and restructure its national merchandise organization. 

Results

Helping the client implement a center-led merchandise organization, our assessment and re-engineering of all key functions including assortment strategy, pricing, promotion, and store operations as well as our support with supplier negotiations led to 4.5% operating profit increase.
